Price against range
The e-bike map
Each dot is one model: its price across, its estimated range up. The line follows the longest estimated range on offer at each price. 505 models are placed.
505 bikes shown, 8 on the line.

- Filled dot: the list price in the United States, or a price read on the brand's own store
- Hollow dot: a converted price, not one any shop charges in the United States
- Line: the longest estimated range on offer at each price
The line: 8 bikes
Cheapest first. Each one goes further than every bike priced at or below it.

How the map is drawn
Nothing here is a test result. Every position comes from a figure the catalogue states or from a formula published on this site.
| Part | Rule |
|---|---|
| Estimated range | Our range calculator's formula under one reference ride: Tour assist, rolling terrain, mild weather, brisk pace, a 80 kg rider and a 25 kg reference bike. It carries a plus or minus 12% band. |
| Not placed | A bike with no battery capacity or weight stated, a battery under 150 Wh or over 2000 Wh, a weight under 12 kg or over 60 kg, or more than 55 Wh per kg has no estimate, so it has no dot. |
| Price | The catalogue's list price in the market's own currency. A bike not listed for that market is placed at its list price converted at the site's fixed rate and drawn as a hollow dot: arithmetic, not a price any shop charges there. |
| The line | A bike is on the line when no bike at the same or a lower price has a longer estimated range. At equal prices the longer estimate is taken, so a tie never puts two bikes on it. Between two points the line holds the cheaper bike's range, because that is the longest range available for that much. |
| Range per price rank | A bike's estimated range divided by its price, ranked among the bikes in view: 1 is the highest ratio, and bikes with the same ratio share a rank. Ranked in kilometres, so the order is the same in miles. |
| Axes | Price is on a logarithmic axis, so the same proportional step takes the same width at any price. Range starts at zero in your region's unit. |
| Colours | Mountain, city and folding bikes get a colour each; every other type shares grey, and the type filter tells them apart. A filter never recolours a dot. |
The estimate is a calculation, not a test. Full method: Methodology.
