Frequently asked questions
The most common questions about MathBikes, our data and how we stay independent. Cannot find what you need? Send us a message above.
What is MathBikes?
MathBikes is a decision engine for electric bike buyers. Instead of opinion-led reviews, we give you free calculators for range, savings, cost of ownership, battery life and finance, a quiz that matches you to bikes, and a searchable database with our own tested-range data. The idea is simple: run the numbers before you buy.
Is MathBikes free to use?
Yes. Every calculator, the Find My E-bike quiz and the full bike database are completely free, with no account required. We keep them free through clearly-labelled affiliate links and sponsored placements, never by charging you or hiding tools behind a paywall.
How accurate are your calculators and data?
Our calculators use open, published formulas with calibrated constants based on EU averages, manufacturer specifications and independent testing. They produce honest estimates for guidance, not guarantees, because real-world results vary with weather, terrain and riding style. Every formula is shown in the methodology so you can check our working, and you can override the defaults with your own figures.
Where does your bike data come from?
Bike specifications come from manufacturers and retailers, while our tested-range figures are standardized real-world estimates we calculate under mixed conditions. We always show the tested figure next to the manufacturer claim so the gap, usually 30 to 40 percent, is visible.
How does MathBikes make money?
Through three clearly-labelled sources: affiliate commissions when you buy through a link, occasional sponsored placements, and dealer lead-generation. We never charge you, and a commission is always paid by the retailer out of their margin, so it never changes the price you pay. Full details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
Are your bike recommendations independent?
Yes. Calculator results and quiz rankings are generated by the same open formulas for every bike, sponsored or not, based on the spec and your inputs. A sponsor can buy visibility through a clearly-labelled slot, but they cannot buy a better score. The math is never for sale.
Do you sell my email or personal data?
No. We only store an email if you give us one (for a result, an alert or the newsletter) and we use it solely to send what you asked for. We never sell your data or share it for third-party advertising, and you can unsubscribe or request deletion at any time. See our privacy policy for the detail.
Can I suggest a bike or report incorrect data?
Please do. Accuracy is the entire product, so corrections to our tested data or calculator constants jump the queue. Use the contact form above or email info@mathbikes.com with the bike and the detail, and we will review it.
How often is the bike database updated?
We refresh the database regularly as new models launch and prices move, and we revisit tested-range figures over time. If you spot a bike that is missing, outdated or mispriced, let us know and we will prioritise it.
Do you sell or ship e-bikes directly?
No. MathBikes is an independent information and comparison site, not a shop. When you are ready to buy, we link you to retailers and brands; the purchase, payment, delivery and warranty are all handled by them under their terms.
